PLANS are in place for a round of major changes to Elescar’s award-winning park which are designed to improve the park further and incorporate it more closely with the visitor attractions on offer across the road at the village’s Heritage Centre.

Elsecar Park is currently ranked the 11th best public park in the country and the ambition is to get it into the top ten and eventually make the venue good enough to sit among the country’s top handful of parks.

A milestone was passed last week with the re-opening of the extended Tee Cups cafe and a new ‘muga’ sports playing area and new children’s playground surface have already been installed.

The public toilets are next in line for attention, with a major refurbishment expected later this year to bring them up to modern standards.

Further significant changes are also under consideration, with a move that could see the position of the park entrance on Wentworth Road changed.
