A BARNSLEY-BORN charity director will travel 1,000 miles on an electric unicycle across the UK to raise money for vulnerable children.

Jonathan Whalley will travel through all four countries of the UK and the Republic of Ireland over 12 days, taking in his hometown of Barnsley tomorrow.

He is raising money for Barnardo’s where he is a regional director.

The challenge will entail 10-14 hours of standing up and riding, averaging around 100 miles each day. There are no planned rest days and the 20kg weight he will be carrying is equivalent to that of Royal Marines in training. He will also have to navigate in remote areas travelling on minor and unclassified roads.
