Child exploitation came top of a list of crime priorities for Barnsley people on Saturday in a survey.

Police and crime commissioner Shaun Wright had a stand at the emergency services fun day in town Saturday asking the public to put themselves in his shoes.

Visitors to the stand were each given '£140' - the average each household pays in council tax on policing - and asked to allocate spending on nine types of crime.

A total of £12,760 was 'spent' by 91 participants, with child sexual exploitation being allocated 30 per cent of the cash, antisocial behaviour 16 per cent and violent crime/assaults 14 per cent.

These were followed by domestic violence with 11 per cent, burglary with ten per cent, criminal damage with six per cent, theft/shoplifting with four per cent and business crime with three per cent of the total allocated.

Mr Wright has announced he will be spending £500,000 on tackling child sexual exploitation, funding ten dedicated officers, an analyst and a young witness service to support child victims through court.
