Barnsley could be set for new owners after head coach Paul Heckingbottom admitted 'there is some truth to' reports that the Reds are in advanced negotiations with a consortium led by a Chinese billionaire.

Chien Lee, who also owns French top flight club Nice, has been previously interested in buying Brentford and Middlesbrough according to national newspaper reports. Talks are ongoing with Lee allegedly keen for a 'swift conclusion'.

Current owner Patrick Cryne - who has terminal cancer - would retain a small percentage of his hometown club as part of the deal while the consortium would apparently provide the funds to attempt promotion to the Premier League. Heckingbottom, when asked about the story after his side's derby defeat to Sheffield United, said 'there is some truth to it but it's not my place to talk about it.'
