A BARNSLEY choir has decided to disband due to lack of members after 40 years.

Singing For Pleasure used to boast almost 50 members and performed concerts all over Barnsley and beyond. But now there are just 14 members who decided to make Tuesday night their last ever rehearsal.

"We are sad, but we're a jolly bunch really, so we've decided to all go out for a meal and celebrate our 40th anniversary," said Wendy Smith, secretary and the only remaining original member of the choir.

"We're all getting older, and we're all creaking at the joints. Some of the members have got a lot on, and some are in their 80s, so we've decided it's time to call an end to it."
