AN exciting showcase of theatre, mask and circus from Birmingham’s BE Festival is heading for Barnsley next month.

BE Festival began in 2009 to build a European festival community in the heart of Birmingham and is a week-long showcase of theatre, dance, circus, visual arts, comedy, food and music, debates and workshops. Now it bring it’s top acts to Barnsley for one night only at the Civic.

Audiences will be treated to three different 30-minute performances in one show.

First up is the moving story of a cranky old couple at odds with each other until the sudden onset of Alzheimer’s disease forces them to find ways to remember what once joined them together.

Next is 30 minutes of circus in which Bristol-based clown Robin Dale will be tripping his way through his new show What Does Stuff Do?, a part guide, part motivational speech on juggling featuring ping pong and water display.

Lastly, the possibilities of language are unpacked in 30 minutes of theatre. Starting with the language of birds and incorporating Hitchcock’s The Birds, this debut performance plays upon the (mis)interpretation, with amusing results.

The Best of BE Festival is at the Civic on Thursday March 8 at 7.30pm. Visit www.barnsleycivic.co.uk or call 327000
