A WOMAN who has been volunteering for the Royal British Legion for more than 25 years has been commended for her outstanding fundraising efforts.

Claire Langley was presented with a certificate and a badge to commemorate all the effort she has put in over the years selling poppies.

A celebration evening was held at the Smithy Arms pub in Oxspring where Claire was awarded for her achievements.

Claire began selling poppies when she was 23 after visiting The Royal British Legion and found they were short of sellers so decided to help out - and she’s not looked back since.

Robert Bladshaw, the Poppy Appeal organiser for Penistone and district said: “I dropped on Claire in a car park after selling poppies, we got talking and she said she had been selling poppies for 25 years.

“I think it’s absolutely fantastic that she’s been selling poppies for so long and she’s a credit to us all.

“I just want to say a massive thank you to Claire from everyone at the Penistone Royal British Legion.”
