WENTWORTH Castle Gardens will close on Easter Monday, the Chronicle has been told.
A Barnsley Council spokeswoman confirmed the last day of opening for the Stainborough attraction is April 17. It is having to shut to the public due to a lack of funds.
More than £22m has been invested in restoring the site to its former glory over the last 14 years and talks are underway to try and find a long term future for the Grade I listed landscape.
Lots of activities are planned ahead of the closure including an Easter egg hunt and a volunteer fund-raising stall with proceeds supporting the future upkeep of the gardens.
