THE owner of a local coach company donated enough turkey and trimmings to make sure all people attending a soup kitchen on Christmas Day were served.
Following a visit to the Barnsley Churches Drop-In (BCDP) project, the owner of Yorkshire Rose Holidays, David Mills, found out that last Christmas the project was short on turkey to serve homeless people following a heavy footfall of around 80 to 100 people visiting.
The BCDP project is a non-profit organisation open three days a week in Barnsley that provides a hot meal and support for homeless people and those in need.
After finding out that there may not be enough turkey to keep up with demand this year, David personally pledged to help by buying 16 turkeys, stuffing, sprouts, Christmas cake, yule logs and other food to make sure that the project didn’t run short.
“There are so many people in Barnsley who are in the position where they don’t have anywhere to go and it made me feel a bit down that this happens so I wanted to help by buying enough turkeys,” said David.
“After Christmas I’m going to see what more we can do as a company to help them and I’m sure with support we can make a difference to those less fortunate than ourselves.”
