A WOMAN from Jump who suffers from a relatively rare condition is organising a coffee morning to boost its awareness.
Lucy Thorpe, 25, from Allott Crescent, has type one neurofibromatosis, a genetic condition which causes benign tumours to grow along the nerves.
Recently diagnosed, Lucy is still coming to terms with the condition but wanted to help out on the upcoming awareness day on May 17.
She said: "There is no cure and it's something that is going to affect me for the rest of my life.
"It's more the pain than anything else. It affects me in my neck and shoulders and down my left hand side.
"Hopefully we will raise some money so that it can go towards finding a cure.
"It is usually found in children and is generally inherited but I am the first in my family to get it so it's been spontaneous."
The coffee morning will be held at the Gateway Church on Mottram Street, Barnsley, and starts at 10am.
