A FORMER Barnsley man was killed when part of a building collapsed on him in Bridlington.

Robert Young, 61, was walking past an amusement arcade on Monday when he was struck by falling bricks dislodged by high winds.

He was a former steward at Silkstone Golf Club and a former landlord at the Button Mill, Worsbrough Bridge.

Peter Ogley, of Silkstone Golf Club, said: "I couldn't believe it was Robert when I saw the news on TV because they described him as a Bridlington man.

"He retired last year and bought a static caravan in Bridlington.

"I can't believe he has died so tragically - it's a million to one chance that he should be walking down that street at that time.

"Robert will be greatly missed by all those who knew him."
