DONCASTER College has refused to explain why it has derailed plans to team up with Barnsley College in a merger which it had been hoped would protect the future of both colleges.

Under the proposals set out back in the summer the two colleges would have retained their own identities but the administration behind the scenes would be shared by a single body, and would have been overseen by one principal who would also be chief executive.

Barnsley College’s board of governors agreed to the deal but last week it was revealed the plans had stalled because Doncaster College’s board of governors rejected the proposals.
