TUTORS from Barnsley College brickwork department swapped their skills from brickwork to joinery to erect a wooden arbour for the new inpatient unit garden at Barnsley Hospice.

Jon Mellor, Keith Parr and Wayne Lumb assembled the arbour which had originally been made by Barnsley College joinery students as part of a national competition.

The tutors had heard about the new patient garden and decided the arbour should be donated for patients and their families to enjoy.

The gardens are still to be developed following the recent expansion to Barnsley hospice which has seen the development of a new patient lounge with dining area, additional treatment rooms and a walled garden area.
