STARGAZERS were treated to a rare sight last weekend when a comet passed the Earth’s atmosphere.

The neowise comet was discovered in March by a team at NASA.

It is around three miles across and is covered with dark particles which are left over from its formation around 4.6 billion years ago.

The comet will be visible throughout July and will pass closest to the Earth on July 23.

You can view the comet between midnight and 3am most nights, weather permitting.
