MORE than £150,000 from the Big Lottery Fund will be shared by 13 community groups across Barnsley.

The latest round of funding awards is part of £9m awarded across Yorkshire and the Humber.

The projects in Barnsley are as follows:

Dearne Allotment Group, £37,000, to attract more volunteers by running new gardening activities, holding community events and recruitment drives and rearranging plots. This will enable the group to develop and improve their services.

Hard Knocks Boxing Club, £10,000, to help raise awareness and teach skills of preventative measures in being bullied to families from diverse communities. This will increase the confidence of children and parents, and improve their self-esteem and well-being.

Inclusion in Action CIC, £10,000, to run woodwork and maintenance workshop sessions for local women, so they can learn new skills, gain independence and improve their confidence and self-esteem.

Barnsley Museums and Heritage Trust, £10,000, to deliver traditional bread making workshops, for people across the community to make healthy food whilst making new friends and developing skills, with the aim of addressing obesity, depression and isolation.

Thurnscoe St Helen’s Parochial Church Council, £10,000, to conduct a community consultation exercise to ascertain the needs and priorities of local people with regards to the community building, with the aim of shaping a space that matters to the community.

The Ellis Church of England (Voluntary Aided) Primary School, Hemingfield, £10,000, to create an all-weather area for children and community groups so they can partake in physical activities all year round.

Ward Green Primary School, £10,000, to run breakfast and holiday clubs for pupils and the wider community to support the health, well-being and development of local children.

All Saints’ Church Darfield, £10,000, to carry out a comprehensive community consultation to establish the needs of the local community, and understand how they can bring people together to make positive differences.

Thurgoland Childcare, £10,000, to install new surfacing to make access to outdoor play equipment safer.

St Michael and All Angels Catholic Primary School, Wombwell, £9,997, to install outdoor play equipment to provide a safe and stimulating place to play for children and young people from the community.

Luminar (Barnsley), £9,995, to deliver domestic abuse awareness workshops in local secondary schools. This will provide young people with a greater understanding of recognising the symptoms of domestic abuse and what positive steps to take in a given situation, with the aim of addressing the issues of domestic abuse and violence.

Plus Me, £9,995, to implement a sexual health drop in service, where young people can access information, advice and testing, with the aim of reducing risky sexual behaviour and teenage pregnancy.

Crossroads Care Barnsley, £7,419, to update IT systems and equipment so they can provide improved support to carers, as well as working more efficiently and effectively.
