A CONTROVERSIAL plan to convert a former pub described as the ‘heart of the Brierley community’ into apartments is expected to be granted approval next week.

Applicant Dyson Homes Limited, which purchased The Three Horseshoes for £180,000 last spring, submitted its plan to transform the building into seven apartments in November last year and a decision on its future will be made by Barnsley Council’s planning board at Tuesday’s meeting.

As well as the apartments, which will have a mixture of one and two bedrooms, two four-bedroom properties could be built on the pub’s car park if the plan is approved.

The building was registered as an asset of community value by the Barnsley branch of CAMRA - the campaign for real ale - for a second time last month in a bid to sway the planning board’s decision.
