AN AFTER-SCHOOL club has been rated outstanding by Ofsted education inspectors much to the delight of the owner who wasn’t even in the country when the inspectors called.
Cool Kidz R Us, based on Church Street, Royston, is a before and after school care facility for children aged four to 11.
The club drops children to school and picks them up from St John’s Primary, Summerfield, Parkside and Meadstead Primary Academies.
Ofsted had contacted owner Bev Hutchinson while she was away in Italy and in her absence, it was up to the five members of staff to impress the inspectors.
Bev, 50, of Melton Way, said: “I was gutted that I couldn’t be at the first inspection as I was away. Although I tried to ask for the inspection to happen when I was back, they insisted they would be coming.
“I had every faith in my team and our wonderful children and their parents so despite not being there, I wasn’t concerned.”
The representative from Ofsted contacted Bev at 7.45pm on the date of her visit to say that she was still there and did not want to leave, as she was incredibly impressed.
The report said: “Managers and staff create and exceptionally nurturing environment and provide extremely responsive care that supports children to thrive.
“Staff are excellent role models for children and have the highest expectations of them. Older children display very caring behaviour towards younger children and display exceptional behaviour and kindness.”
Upon receiving the exciting news, Bev said: “I couldn’t’ believe it, I’m chuffed to bits.
“I’m over the moon with the result and it just shows how amazing my team are.”
