VISITORS to Barnsley recycling centres will soon have to take their ID along with them and their rubbish - in a crack down on 'tip tourism'.

Neighbouring local authorities have closed recycling centres- causing fears that householders will now drive into Barnsley to get rid of their waste for free.

Councils including Sheffield and Rotherham have closed down recycling or dumpit sites to save money.

Council leader Sir Steve Houghton said: "Basically our recycling centres are for our residents, not for people from anywhere else. I'm sorry if it's going to be inconvenient for people to have to take along proof that they are a residents of Barnsley, but I think it's a sensible way of preventing tip tourism."
