BARNSLEY Council is set to announce a new chief executive.

Sarah Norman, current chief executive at Dudley Council, is being recommended for the job and councillors will vote on the appointment at the next full council meeting on April 4.

Council leader Sir Steve Houghton chaired the panel that is recommending Sarah’s appointment, and said he was ‘extremely pleased’ at the appointment.

“I have no doubt she will build on the success of Diana Terris at a time when local government, and Barnsley in particular, have been hard hit through austerity,” said Coun Houghton.

“Sarah brings a strong knowledge of adult and children’s services, as well as that broader perspective a successful chief executive requires.

“We’re strongly looking forward to working with her in the years ahead.”

Sarah said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining Barnsley Council as its next chief executive. It will be a privilege to build on the great work done by my predecessor Diana Terris.

“I’m very excited by all the regeneration happening in Barnsley and the opportunity to connect cranes with communities to make sure that local people really benefit.”

Sarah is set to take up her post in the summer.

She will take over from retiring chief executive, Diana Terris, who joined Barnsley Council in 2012.
