MAJOR schemes including improvements to a congested crossroads junction, a school extension and a new pet crematorium have been given the backing of council chiefs.
The ruling cabinet agreed to set money aside to draw up plans for the three projects when they met on Wednesday.
They agreed to revise the 2017-2020 capital investment programme - spending earmarked for one-off schemes - to include the new schemes.
It means £2.6m has now been earmarked to pull together plans for improvements to the road layout at the Dodworth Road, Broadway and Pogmoor Road crossroads, a further £2m will be set aside to pay for a three-storey extension at Penistone ALC to create additional schools places and £150k for a pet crematorium at Cannon Hall.
Coun Robin Franklin said they will be paid for with additional funding from the Sheffield City Region of about £1m and ‘deprioritising’ two other planned schemes - £1.8m previously identified for works to the junction of Smithies Lane and Wakefield Road and £1.6m for the speculative purchase of a substation off Harborough Hill Road.
