BARNSLEY Council is hoping that Tour de Yorkshire workshops around the area will get everybody in gear for this year’s spectacular event.

Welcome to Yorkshire is inviting town centre residents and businesses of Barnsley to the first of a series of Tour de Yorkshire road shows on Monday, which will take place at The Civic.

The road show is set to give a detailed view of the route and provide local residents, businesses and community groups with all the information they need to embrace the fifth edition.

Coun Roy Miller said: “These events are a good opportunity for businesses, community groups, schools or everybody else to come along and get a clear understanding of how Friday May 3 will run.

“It offers a wide range of people to share information regarding our town and this year’s Tour de Yorkshire, especially following the success of last year.

“We’re delighted to be hosting a start for the women’s and men’s races once again and it will open up a lot of exciting opportunities for our community, local businesses and residents to get involved.

“We have a lot to offer here in Barnsley and this road show is a fantastic way to ensure we make the most of it.”

Welcome to Yorkshire is joining forces with local authorities to run the shows at a variety of venues along the 2019 route and information will be shared on how to get involved, build excitement and maximise the benefits of world-wide media coverage between May 2 to 5. In order to attend you must book your place on the Welcome To Yorkshire website to register your interest.

Barnsley Council is also hosting its own road show at Mapplewell Village Hall on Tuesday, January 22 at 6pm to speak to local residents and businesses to encourage everybody to get involved with the event and to go over the finer details on what to expect in order to make the most of the opportunity.

Details on road closures, the annual sportive and Welcome to Yorkshire’s various cycling legacy projects will be discussed, along with ways people can become official Tour Makers or take part in the ever popular best dressed and land art competitions.
