A RECOMMENDATION for Barnsley Council to press ahead with its bid to purchase a town centre building to entice more businesses into the central location has been agreed.

The council’s ruling cabinet members discussed the acquisition of The Core, on County Way, at a meeting at the town hall on Wednesday.

Built in 2008, it is is currently home to Voluntary Action Barnsley - a group which is moving to Priory Campus, Lundwood - as well as offering office space and conference facilities.

The council views the modern facility as an opportunity to entice businesses to a prominent location in the town centre, which is a stone’s throw away from Barnsley Interchange, and boost jobs in the longer term.
