A NEW text service has been set up for adults who are deaf or have hearing impairments so they can raise safeguarding concerns with the council.

The number - 61009 - went live on Monday and must be followed by the word SAFE in the subject line to make sure it reaches the right email box.

The message, which costs four pence, needs to describe what harm someone is experiencing and what help they would like from the service.

Coun Margaret Bruff, cabinet spokesman for safeguarding, said: “We hope that this text option will make our safeguarding adults service more accessible and allow us to help people who are vulnerable and need assistance.”

The response received by the sender from adult social care will be in text form and if necessary a meeting will be arranged to talk to the adult with a signer should they require one.
