BARNSLEY Council is taking legal action after allegations trees were illegally cut down at a protected woodland near Worsbrough

Worsbrough Wood, close to the historic listed building Worsbrough Hall on Worsbrough Road, is protected by a tree preservation order meaning consent is required from the council’s planning department before any felling can take place.

But the police were called at the weekend following reports of trees being cut down.

Local councillor John Clarke said he had been contacted by a resident. “I got a call at about 2.15pm on Sunday, and I got up there by about half past.”
