BARNSLEY Council is to crackdown on litterers after receiving complaints that school children in an area of Darton are turning the streets into a rubbish dump.

Residents in Birthwaite Street and Oakwood Square say students attending Darton College are throwing down cans, bottles and empty crisp bags as they make their way to and from school.

One resident who asked not to be named said in one morning alone there had been 10 empty bottles and half a dozen crisp bags thrown into his garden.

He said: “It’s disgusting. They throw all sorts on my drive and garden including chewing gum which is almost impossible to get off.

“If you say anything they just ignore you.”
