‘LEAVE our communities alone’ is the cry from councillors in some of the area’s smaller villages.

Great and Little Houghton, Broomhill and Middlecliffe have all become go-to locations for people looking to dump their waste.

Chapel Lane, also known as Tank Hill, in Great Houghton has sofas and more left at the side of the rural track.

A car park in Broomhill is also a target.

But the spot identified by Coun Pauline Markham as being ‘the worst in the Darfield ward’ is the bus turnaround at the end of Middlecliffe Lane, Little Houghton, where tippers leave their rubbish - including large settees, vegetable oil cans and even the remains of what are thought to be marijuana plants - right next to the Houghton Main Miners’ Memorial.
