COUNCIL chiefs will discuss creating a new post to explore licensing powers to stop unscrupulous landlords cramming several families into small homes.
The Chronicle reported earlier this year how Barnsley is facing an overcrowding problem in certain areas of the borough on a scale not seen before - with up to 14 people sharing two-bed homes.
Hot spots for such overcrowding have been identified in the Central and Kingstone wards, as well as in the Dearne.
On Wednesday the council’s ruling cabinet members will discuss the creation of a new post to explore the introduction of a licensing scheme in Barnsley to strengthen its powers.
