FUGITIVE vicar Simon Reynolds has handed himself in to police following the launch of wide-scale manhunt to discover his whereabouts.

A police spokeswoman said Reynolds made contact with officers and handed himself in at a Sheffield police station this morning where he was immediately arrested.

He appeared at Sheffield Crown Court this afternoon and was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing due to take place tomorrow.

It was thought Reynolds, 50, may fled to mainland Europe after walking out of court last Thursday prior to a verdict being returned in his trial for theft.

The trial was told he had kept £24,000 in funeral and wedding fees between 2007 and 2013.

Reynolds, who was found guilty of four counts of theft, was vicar at All Saints Church in Darton when he committed the crimes.

He absconded from court and a warrant was issued for his arrest. The Bishop of Wakefield Tony Robinson had urged the vicar, who has been suspended pending the outcome of his trial, to return home.
