Athersley cruiserweight Tony Cruise suffered a heavy knockout defeat at the Metrodome on Friday night.

Cruise, 34, was taken out of the eight round contest by a huge left hook in the seventh from Lancashire opponent Martyn Grainger.

Barnsley Star-trained Cruise had been edging an entertaining fight between two big men but needed sustained medical treatment after the devastating punch and took a while to get back to his feet and back to the dressing room.

Cruise's manager Carl Greaves confirmed to the Chronicle that Cruise 'was ok' and did not have to visit hospital.

Earlier on in the evening three Barnsley fighters earned points victories.Super-featherweight Jack Churchill, 23, beat Bristol's Harvey Hemsley 59-56 in his first ever six rounder.

Lightweight Robbie Barrett, 23, from Darfield, looked classy as he won every round of a four rounder against Newark's Fonz Alexander.

Fellow southpaw Ryan Hinchliffe, 28, from Grimethorpe, also won on points. The welterweight got by Torquay's Ali Wyatt 40-36.
