BUSINESSES in the centre of Cudworth claim their livelihoods are being jeopardised by problems with teenage gangs.

Traders say disruptive teens have been causing chaos in the Barnsley Road shopping area and have set fire to bins, daubed graffiti on shop fronts and even defecated on premises.

Georgina Ellison, of Laki’s Fish Bar, told the Chronicle persistent issues with teenagers loitering around shop entrances is driving customers away.

“It’s been a problem for years but it’s worse than ever now,” she said. “We have lost so much trade because of what they’re doing and we need the police to do more.

“It’s a daily thing - if you say anything to them you just get verbally abused. It’s intimidating and what if one was carrying a weapon?”
