CCTV has been installed in Cudworth in an attempt to curtail rising antisocial behaviour in the village’s shopping centre.

The camera, which has been fitted to a lamp post on Barnsley Road outside The Star pub, overlooks the shops which have been worst affected by the ongoing battle against teenage yobs.

It follows months of issues with youngsters - some allegedly from Outwood Academy in Shafton - who have caused havoc at locations including Barnsley Road, Snydale Road and St John’s Road which has seen them allegedly racially abuse business owners and cause damage to premises and bus stops.

A spokesman from Barnsley Council said: “After listening to the public’s concern, we carried out an assessment and decided that a CCTV camera was appropriate. As of March 14 a camera, funded by the Cudworth Ward Alliance, has been deployed on Barnsley Road.”
