A PETITION to bring back a BBC police drama featuring Barnsley's Shaun Dooley has almost 7,000 signatures.

Cuffs has run for eight weeks, but the BBC has now announced there will be no second series.

A petition has been set up by a fan to bring back the show in which Shaun played DC Carl Hawkins, a wisecracking, fun-loving bloke who roller-coasters through life and trusts that everything will turn out all right in the end.

Shaun told the Chronicle: "Thank you to everyone who has signed the petition, It's fantastic to know there's so many people out there who enjoyed it that much.

"I'm constantly stopped by members of the public and asked why it hasn't been recomissioned. It's a real shame but from myself and the cast, we want to say a massive thank you to those who have signed."

A BBC spokesman said: Ò"We are very proud of Cuffs and would like to thank all those involved but in order to create space for new shows and to keep increasing the range of BBC1 drama the show will not be returning for a second series."
