A DALEK has been threatening to ‘exterminate’ regulars at a pub in Hoyland.

The custom-built five foot eight-inch replica of the Dr Who baddie has been entertaining guests The Prospect Tavern, on West Street, in the run up to Christmas. It was brought to the pub by John Irwin, 48, who has worked at the pub as a DJ for 18 years.

The Dalek lights up and has a built-in Bluetooth speaker system which can play music from a mobile phone or tablet.

John, of Park Road, Worsbrough Bridge, said: “My ex father-in-law was a huge Dr Who fan and he built the Dalek. He was redecorating his house with his wife and asked to keep the Dalek at mine whilst the renovations took place.

“He sadly died last month but before that we did speak about bringing the Dalek to the Tavern to scare the children. Funnily enough it’s been the adults that have been more wary about it than the children.

“We’ve had a karaoke night where people have sung along with the Dalek and requests have been played out of it. Everyone has enjoyed it.”

Lynn Simms, landlady, said: “It’s been great to have something different entertaining our guests over the Christmas period. It’s been very popular and so many people have been posing for photos with it.”

The Dalek will be at the pub until after Christmas and John then hopes to auction it off and raise money for charity in memory of his father-in-law.
