BRAVE youngster Darcy Burke was given the 'send off she deserved' at her funeral last Friday, according to her mum.

Joanne Willis said there tears of joy as well as sadness as hundreds, many dressed in Darcy's favourite colour purple, gathered to say goodbye to the six-year-old who died a year after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

"It was a celebration of her life, and the good times Darcy had," said Joanne, 39, of Beech Court, Darfield.

People from all over Barnsley raised thousands for Darcy when she became ill so she could enjoy wonderful experiences such as visiting EuroDisney, and meeting her favourite band JLS at a concert.

"We took donations for Bluebell Wood Children's Hospice and I think we've raised about £1,400, so I'd really like to thank everyone again.

"Family, friends, friends of friends, strangers, everyone has been fantastic for digging deep, raising money for Darcy and for the hospice, but also just for being there and supporting us, and Darcy.

"I can't thank everyone enough."
