THE blanket ban on legal highs campaigned for by Dan Jarvis MP will not be brought in before the general election.

Mr Jarvis has long campaigned against the sale of 'psychoactive substances' and the ban came as a result of a review ordered by the Home Office.

But he expressed his disappointment the ban will not be introduced before the end of March when Parliament recesses for the general election in May.

"It is bitterly disappointing," he said. "The government has had more than five months to act since one of their own reports recommended a blanket ban, but ministers have failed to make it a reality despite widespread support for action.

"There is no doubt that this delay will have consequences for the communities who continue to be blighted by the sale of these dangerous substances – including here in Barnsley."
