A FORMER soldier from Barnsley became so depressed he robbed a bank hoping to be shot dead by armed police.

Billy Gage is amongst an army of former soldiers desperately in need of help to adapt to life after the Army.

He hatched the plan to rob a bank at gunpoint hoping he would be shot by armed police.

In the week a conference focused on the mental well-being of veterans in Barnsley, Billy told the Chronicle of his battle to adjust to life after theArmy.
