A BARNSLEY man who committed ‘despicable’ sexual assaults on three vulnerable young boys has been jailed for 25years.

Jamie Mann, of Denison Court, was found guilty by a jury of 15 counts of sexual offences against children - including rape and sexual assault - at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday.

In 2016, an investigation was launched and Mann, 26, was arrested in connection to the abuse of the boys, which was committed over a five-year period. His victims were all under the age of 13 at the time the offences occurred.

Det Sgt Jo Chambers and Det Con Elinor Duke, who led the investigation, said he deliberately targeted vulnerable children.

“Mann made efforts to gain the trust of these children, with the aim of abusing that trust to commit the most heinous of crimes against them for his own selfish sexual gratification,” DS Chambers said.

“Throughout our investigation, despite the strong and extensive evidence gathered against him, Mann continued to deny his guilt, which resulted in a two-week trial in which his victims were forced to relive and recount their ordeals in court.

“We’d like to praise the victims for the bravery they have shown, from the day they came forward to tell us what happened, to the immense courage they have demonstrated throughout the entire investigation and court process.”

Mann will also be subject to a sexual harm prevention order upon his release and will be placed on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

“We hope that knowing Mann is behind bars for a very long time goes some way in helping both them and their families move forward with their lives,” DS Chambers added.

“This understandably caused significant distress, anxiety and upset to not only the victims but to their families as well.

“South Yorkshire Police is committed to bringing the perpetrators of child sexual abuse before the courts and will always listen to victims who come forward to report such abuse.”
