BIKER Connor Semley shows off his first trophy, as he makes a name for himself in the world of motorcycle racing.

The Chronicle last week reported how Connor, 23, of Kingsway, Grimethorpe, went on to win the trophy after a terrible crash at his first race meet at Cadwell Park which left other riders injured.

Undeterred, he went on to win a trophy at Brands Hatch.

Connor, who races bikes in the Thundersport Pre-National 600 Freshman Championship, said: “I’ve been riding motorbikes since I was 16, and I’ve been trying track racing for the last few years just for fun. But this year I decided to go into competitive racing.

“My first race was at Cadwell Park in May and I had a massive crash on my first race. We were on the starting grid and we all set off for the first race and someone stalled their bike in front of me.

“The bloke I hit had a broken pelvis, he was in a bad way. The other bloke who stalled his bike had his leg run over by someone else. I managed to get away scot-free, luckily. That was my first ever race meeting.”

Not one to be easily put off, Connor, who rides a Yamaha R6, repaired his bike and went to Brands Hatch for his second race meet, and came third, winning a trophy.

He said: “I was really pleased, to say it is the first time I have ever been there as well.

“You don’t go out to crash and get battered and bruised but it’s always on your mind.

“Especially on the day I won that trophy, the first race I was in, I did crash.

“I just lost the back wheel, I couldn’t save it. But on the second race, when I finished I got third place for that race. I enjoy riding fast and beating people. I just have a need for speed, I like to win.”

Connor, a self-employed joiner, is racing again later this month on Anglesey in Wales.
