KEEPING an eye on the time while on a stroll around Locke Park has become easier once again.

The North Lodge’s clock, off Park Road, is ticking for the first time in apporximately 25 years thanks to some TLC from the building’s new owner.

Property developer Andrew Bennett bought the lodge at auction earlier this year and as part of his leasehold agreement, he had to get the clock - which dates back to 1969 - up and running.

Damage to the clock face, caused by air rifles and bricks being thrown, meant the hands were stuck.

But contractor Richard Gill soon got on the case.

Richard said: “It is actually electric. So it was a case of getting up there and seeing what was what.

“The fascias were replaced by a joiner friend of mind and all the Roman numerals had to be repainted on by hand, which was quite a challenge.

“It has taken about a week in man hours between us to do it. But the amount of people who have stopped to comment on it, particularly the older end, has been unbelievable.”
