Fan favourites LLoyd Isgrove and Adam Hammill could both still play a key role for Barnsley this season, says assistant head coach Dimas.

The two wingers are among the most popular players with the Reds supporters, after both played key parts in the 2016 promotion and scored at Wembley in the League One play-off final. But neither player has been in the squad for the last three games, with fellow wingers Connor Mahoney and Ryan Hedges preferred.

Hammill – who is out of contract in the summer – has not scored in more than 50 Championship matches and is yet to register an assist this season. Former loan star Isgrove has been in and out of the side in an injury-plagued season since signing permanently from Southampton last summer. Jose Morais started them both in his first game as head coach against Burton Albion last month but substituted Isgrove at half-time then withdrew Hammill early in the second half.

He changed to a 4-3-3 system with three natural strikers up front, which he has kept in the three following matches. Earlier in the week, Morais said of Isgrove: "I don't see him as an option for the moment. He is a player that is working and I believe he is giving his best but I don't see him as an option."

Morais' assistant Dimas told the Chronicle yesterday: "We have a big squad and a good squad. We need to decide which players to play in every game based on the opposition, the system we are using and the performances in training. Just because someone is not in the team today, does not mean they will not play tomorrow. We have a lot of games in a short period of time and all of our players will be involved.

"Our model at the moment is to use a 4-3-3 and we have a certain type of players in the wide positions. That is Jose's choice to make."
