DJ Simon Hirst is hosting a new national radio show - pitting him against his hero Tony Blackburn.

Hirsty, 37, is presenting his new show on Global Radio's Gold.

He plays the 'greatest hits of all time' every Saturday from 1-5pm, airing at the same time as Tony Blackburn on BBC Radio 2.

"Tony is a good friend of mine and I used to listen to him do Pick of the Pops every week but now I am up against him playing my own oldies."

Hirsty has taken on the new programme in addition to co-hosting his Capital FM breakfast show 'Hirsty's Daily Dose'.

"I've been a massive fan of Gold for quite a long time, as I'm obsessed with music from all decades and I've got quite an eclectic taste."

"When I was 13 you would have found me upstairs on Barnsley market looking for old records.

"With 20,000 seven inch singles in my own personal vinyl collection, my friends call me a music geek, so the chance to play some of the greatest hits of all time is a wonderful opportunity for me."
