DEDICATED football fans looking to fend off criticism from their neglected partners as they spend the summer watching the World Cup now have the perfect response - thanks to a local DJ.

James 'Jimbo' Wilmshurst has released self-penned song 'I Met Football Before I Met You' ahead of the month-long tournament in Brazil, which kicks off on June 12.

The 26-year-old, who has a weekly Sunday afternoon slot on Penistone FM, produced the tongue-in-cheek piece in response to his fiancee's lack of interest in the sport.

Funds generated by the single will be donated to Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Jimbo's late radio and college colleague Richard Tolson, who died from the illness last year.
