A BARNSLEY man has been jailed for five years for burglary after his DNA was found at the scene of his crimes.

David Kenneth Milner, 50, of High Street, Royston, broke into two houses in November last year, stealing items including jewellery and a television. Milner was identified as a suspect, and subsequently arrested, after his DNA was found at both houses.

He appeared before Sheffield Crown Court last Friday, where he pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and was jailed for a total of five years.

The first house, in Darley Cross, Worsbrough Dale, was broken into on November 11, after Milner smashed the patio door to gain entry. A mobile phone was taken.

The following day, Milner broke into a house in Wilthorpe Road, Wilthorpe, forcing a side door open to get in. Several pieces of jewellery were stolen, as well as a television.

PC Oliver Williams, investigating the incident from Barnsley CID, said: “During visits to both properties by our CSIs, evidence of blood where the houses had been broken into was found.

“The blood was analysed and the DNA found to be Milner’s. He was brought into custody and later charged with the two offences.

“Burglary is an incredibly intrusive crime and a priority for us here in Barnsley. It can leave people feeling unsafe to be in their own homes and can rob them of irreplaceable sentimental items. We will always do whatever we can to bring those responsible for burglaries before the courts so that they can be held accountable for their crimes.”
