A GOLDTHORPE doctor's surgery marked for closure by the NHS due to a low patient registry has been sold to a new medical provider.

Lakeside Surgery, based at the Goldthorpe Centre, was set to close on November 8. But after a patient survey in September, the NHS has instead found a new provider to take over the practice.

An NHS spokesman said: "The results of that engagement showed that out of the 352 patients (15 per cent of the registered population) that responded to the survey, 96.60 per cent wanted the service re-procuring.

"Following a procurement process undertaken by NHS England a successful bidder has been identified and the practice will be open on Monday November 10 for the delivery of primary medical care services."
