A RADICAL solution to tackle the blight of dog fouling by rewarding responsible owners with a prize is expected to be approved next week.

The idea was thought up by councillors from North East Area Council - which represents the Monk Bretton, Royston, Cudworth and the North East wards - in a bid to keep the streets the clean.

The ‘Responsible Dog Owner’ pilot project hopes to build on the public’s pride in their local environment and the focus will be to ‘positively encourage’ owners to pick up after their pooches.

Hundreds of dog fouling fines are dished out each year to irresponsible owners across the borough and the problem prompted North East Area councillors to pilot a dog fouling project whereby people seen picking up after their dog will have their name entered into a quarterly draw to win a small prize.
