DEADLY sweets laced with nails were thrown into the garden of a Jump dog owner.

One-year-old Springer spaniel Zip had to have major surgery to remove five nails from his stomach, after he ate sweets which had nails shoved inside them earlier this month.

Owner Sarah Gascoigne, from Wentworth Road, said she can’t think of a reason why someone would want to harm her pets as they don’t bark and she only has one neighbour on the road.

And the incident has an even more sinister slant as the sweets would have to have been thrown over the fence at the bottom of the garden, which faces grassland.

Sarah said: “He has had to have major surgery to remove five nails from his stomach, and if we hadn’t noticed in time, they would have killed him once passed through to his intestines and punctured them.”
