New signing Kenny Dougall scored two minutes into his Barnsley debut as they drew 1-1 with Hull City in their final pre-season match at Oakwell on Saturday.

Hull scored an equaliser later in the first half and the Reds were the better team but missed a host of chances. Barnsley took the lead after 105 seconds when Dougall – the first signing of the summer who joined the previous day – unleashed a powerful low 25-yard effort which deceived goalkeeper David Marshall and crept in.

The Reds were well on top for the first 15 minutes, with Kieffer Moore heading a Mamadou Thiam left-wing cross wide but Hull almost levelled with a right-wing corner was met by the unmarked Jarrod Bowen and his volley was blocked by Adam Davies.

Moore then sent a shot across the face of goal from a difficult angle after being played on on the right of the penalty area then the same player attempted to deflect in a shot by Dimitri Cavare but sent the ball well over the bar.

The visitors levelled in the 31st minute when Daniel Pinillos was caught out by a long ball and Bowen went clean through on goal and smashed the ball past Davies who had left his bottom left corner exposed.

Moore then volleyed tamely at Marshall from the right side of the box after former Barnsley captain Angus MacDonald misjudged a long ball.

Thiam almost put the hosts ahead just before the break when he brought the ball down in the box and fired just wide of the bottom right corner via a slight deflection.

Barnsley began the second half well and Alex Mowatt's 25-yard strike bounced off the crossbar. Moore then missed further chances, blazing his best opportunity of the game over the bar in the box after exchanging passes with Victor Adeboyejo then sending a lob over the bar after a good chipped pass from substitute Cameron McGeehan.
