TWO teams of pupils from Barnsley will pitch their business ideas to Dragon's Den star Theo Paphitis after success at the Barnsley heats of a national enterprise challenge.
One team from Horizon Community College designed a 'multifunction' pencil case decorated in popular social media slang words, like LOL (laughs out loud), OMG (oh my god) and YOLO (you only live once).
The team included Ellie Hawcroft, James Miller, Bradley Healey, Louis Philburn, Adrianna Darlow and Sanama Razieva.Another team from Holy Trinity designed some flip-flops for Gandy's Flip Flops, and included Tom Booth, Rachel Rabson, Kumbirai Murwisi, Abbey Taylor and Doreen Gambiza.
The event, held at Horizon Community College, was part of the Ryman National Enterprise Challenge, and its national sales manager is Ashleigh Porter-Exley, who won Alan Sugar's BBC Young Apprentice in 2012.
Ashleigh, 19, was raised in Bolton-on-Dearne and now lives at Wath, although she works in Staffordshire during the week.
She said: "We invited all of Barnsley's secondary schools, and six came along.
"We were really impressed with lots of the ideas. The judges found it very difficult to choose.
"The event went very well and proved exactly what Barnsley students are made of - graft , passion and employability skills."The national Enterprise challenge just gave them the opportunity to show case and enhance these abilities."
The finalists will go through to the final in Manchester in July, where they'll get to pitch their ideas to Theo Pahitis.
