A HIT and run driver reversed his car out of the wall of a Penistone bungalow and drove off following a crash on Saturday night.

The disabled occupant slept through the commotion just before midnight and was then helped by neighbours Alan and Jackie Briscoe who also called for assistance.

Although the car was badly damaged it was driven away slowly and was later found abandoned by police, who attended within ten minutes of being called.

The bungalow was too badly damaged to be occupied and has been shored up with boards and scaffolding until it can be repaired.

Mr Briscoe said the driver involved appeared to have taken a bend too quickly and hit the kerb, before the car crossed the carriageway, a grass verge and slammed into the wall, punching a hole through into the bathroom.

“I was watching television when there was a loud bang,” he said.

“When I went to see what was happening I saw a car reversing away and it drove off slowly.

“Then I saw the damaged and went to help my neighbour. He was in bed and had slept through it but he was upset about what had happened to his bathroom.”

There have been complaints raised on social media about problems with vehicles speeding around the district at night.

No information was available from South Yorkshire Police.
