ROADSIDE drug testing kits are being used by police in a bid screen drivers suspected of being under the influence of drugs.The new roadside kits will now be used alongside impairment tests, and will screen for drugs and allow officers to test drivers at the scene.
It comes alongside a change in legislation which means it is an offence to drive whilst unfit through drink or drugs and also driving while over the prescribed limit.
The change encompasses both alcohol and drugs and will carry the same penalties as drink driving.
